Following a joint meeting this morning with representatives from the Anglican, Methodist and URC churches in Groby and Ratby it was decided that accepting national advice we must suspend all worship services and all activities from today until further notice.
This is an exceptional and momentous decision in the history of our churches! I know this will be difficult news to accept for many, in that we cannot meet together as we did, but we need to protect the health of one another. Our life is going to be less characterised by attendance at church on Sunday and more by the prayer and service we can offer each other.
Elders are formulating a plan where we can keep in touch with each other as a congregation and to have a means of offering practical and pastoral support where needed. This will be based on homegroup groupings and forming other small groups. In addition, we aim to provide spiritual material for personal and family devotion. This will mainly be by the church Facebook page. (We know not all have access to this and we urge you to have access if you can, or seek help to obtain it). More details will follow on all of these initiatives.
We have taken the decision not to open the URC at all. The parish church will be open for personal prayer at set times. Information to follow.
Prayer is essential at these times for one another and the nation/world. Prayer requests that would normally be put on cards into the prayer box will now be via Lynda Hawkes. Please let her have your requests by telephone or email. More details to follow.
As for the wider village community, we are linking into new groups and support networks being set up by parish councillors and others. Again, information to follow.
No one knows how long these and other measures will be required for. This will certainly be a great challenge for us, our government and nation. Please remember all those who work in front line services such as health and emergency in your prayers.
Please continue to follow government and health advice and to try and stay as healthy as possible.
I will aim to keep you
updated as things develop. In the meantime, if you have any questions or
concerns please let me know.
